The cup was discovered by the influential Powell family of Nanteos in the mid 19th century. Margaret Powell his wife, remained at Nanteos until her death in 1951. Since that time Nanteos has had various owners including distant relatives of the Powell family. The house has been opened to the public, featured on TV and in films and at one time, was also a restaurant. In 2006, Nanteos was bought by Island International, a privately owned Trust, and has been undergoing extensive restructuring and renovation for the last two years. Trust owner Shane Lipscombe is said to have fallen in love with the property during a visit sometime before it was placed on the market. “He and his wife Carolyn just wanted to bring the building back to life so that it can be enjoyed once more as it was in times gone by,” Mr Rawlings-Lloyd said. “We hope that Nanteos, in its new guise will breathe new life into the area and secure its future as an outstanding historic Welsh landmark. “So many people have a connection with Nanteos because of its rich Welsh history going back more than 250 years.” Located just outside Aberystwyth, near Rhydyfelin, the hotel now offers 14 sumptuous rooms, each one individually designed in keeping with the original history of the house. Several stories of hauntings surround the property with tales often involving three particular ghosts – a grey lady, a phantom horse and a carriage that draws up to the front door in the middle of the night, and the so-called Jewel Lady.
