Turnovers, Ghosts 'D' haunt Bulldogs

CHILLICOTHE — The Streator Bulldogs traveled down to the haunted house of the Grey Ghosts and led host Illinois Valley Central briefly a couple of times toward the close of the third quarter.

Other than that, the Bulldogs (5-14) played from behind pretty much all evening, and it caught up to them in the final stanza as IVC outscored Streator’s boys by 10 points in the fourth quarter to put away a 55-45 nonconference victory Tuesday.

Streator’s 22 turnovers and the Grey Ghosts’ holding of Bulldogs leading scorer and long-range specialist Nolan Sokol to just two attempted 3-pointers all night were the difference. IVC (12-9) took advantage of both to grab the lead early and ultimately win the fourth quarter — and the game — by out-tallying the Bulldogs 19-9 over the final eight minutes.

“(Being in it until the final minute) is a testament to our kids because this game could have gotten away from us real early,” said Bulldogs coach Beau Doty.
